Over the years, the U.S. gymnastics team has proven to be a force to be reckoned with in the Olympic Games. For instance, Simone Biles was a delight to watch at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. Interestingly, her incredible performances earned her the most medals compared to other gymnasts who participated in the game.

While she might likely get the same result in the 2021 Olympic Games, let’s look at some of the most celebrated U.S. gymnastic stars before Simone Biles.

1. Shawn Johnson East

Shawn made her Olympic debut at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and won only one gold medal. Unfortunately, she couldn’t participate in the 2012 Olympics due to a knee injury.

Before her sudden retirement from the sport, Shawn was both a professional dancer and a gymnast. In 2009, she participated and won the 8th edition of the American dance television series ” Dancing with the Stars.

2. Gabby Douglas

The all-around gold winner at the 2012 Olympics was the first African-American to achieve this feat. She was instrumental to the enormous success recorded by her team during that competition. In 2016, Gabby represented her country alongside other teammates and won gold medals for her country.

3. Mary Lou Retton

Retton is arguably one of the most decorated gymnasts in U.S. history. Due to her incredible performances at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles and winning the 1985 American cup, she was inducted into the United States Olympic Hall of Fame.

4. McKayla Maroney

Gymnastic fans enjoyed her talent at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, even though she wasn’t entirely impressed with her performance in the game. Not only did she win a silver medal at the individual level, but her team also won the gold medal for the United States.

5. Alicia Sacramone

Alicia was a member of the USA gymnastics team at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. She will be remembered for winning ten gymnastic medals at different International games.
